The University of Pittsburgh has partnered with Flywire to offer a streamlined and cost effective way for you to make international payments for tuition and fees on your student account. Flywire offers favorable exchange rates and a secure portal for processing your payment to Pitt from almost every country and any bank, typically in your home currency. With Flywire, you can:

After you register for classes for the term, you will have charges to pay on your student account and can view them in PittPAY on the Current Account Details screen. At that point, you begin the international payment process in PittPAY:

  1. Students, go to my.pitt.edu, enter your Pitt username and password, then click PittPAY Login.
  2. Authorized Payers* login to PittPAY here
  3. Once you are in PittPAY, check Current Account Details to see if you have charges to pay for the current term.
  4. If you do, go to the Make Payment screen.
  5. Enter your payment amount. Please do not enter more than you owe for the current term on Current Account Details. (If you enter more than is needed to make payment in full for the current term, the excess received by the University will be applied as a prepayment for your educational costs for the next term.)
  6. Select International Payment–Flywire as your payment method, then click Continue.
  7. If the information on your screen is correct, click Make Payment

When you make that selection, you will be directed to Flywire’s portal to create your Flywire account and complete your transaction. You can use their Live Chat, WeChat, Skype, and other help options during the process.

Flywire will provide you with detailed bank instructions, an Authorization Letter, and for certain countries that need it, additional documents to give your home bank so they will release funds for your education costs.

You will be able to track your payment in Flywire’s portal as it makes its way to the University. When your payment status in Flywire is “Delivered,” you will be able to see the payment credited to your student account in PittPAY on Current Account Details within one to two business days.

What Happens to Overpayments?

We can only accept funds that are needed to pay for the charges on your student account. We cannot accept payment for other costs such as off-campus housing, rent, food, utilities, etc. You must fund these living expenses directly to your own personal bank account, not through the University of Pittsburgh and not through Flywire.

Therefore, your payment should not exceed the amount of tuition and fees posted to your student account for the current academic term. Any excess amount will be posted as a pre-payment on your account for a future term. You will be notified by email if that happens. If you make an overpayment for the current term, but you will not be attending the University in future terms, we will return the overpayment to you through Flywire, who will send the funds back to your originating bank. Flywire will deduct a $35.00 fee for processing the return.

Can I make an international wire payment to Pitt without using Flywire?

The University’s banking details are subject to change. Even if you are unable to use Flywire’s services for your payment, you must still contact Flywire to register a direct wire payment from your bank to ours. Registering your payment with Flywire ensures that you will be using the University’s most up-to-date banking information and helps us identify your payment once we receive it so we can post it to your student account right away.
