Tuition Rates & Fees

Academic Year 2023-2024 Cost of Attendance information is available at tuition.pitt.edu. Cost of Attendance information includes:

  • Tuition
  • Mandatory fees
  • Other Estimated Expenses

The information is organized by Undergraduate, Graduate, and Online programs. Note that tuition and fees for Online Programs apply to students admitted to fully online programs, not to individual online courses that may be offered in an on-campus or hybrid program.

Learn how tuition is billed each term based on full-time or part-time enrollment and the undergraduate or graduate/first professional level.

Mandatory Fees

All students are charged Mandatory Fees that vary by campus, undergraduate vs. graduate enrollment, and full-time vs. part-time attendance. They are charged each academic term, posted to the student account when tuition is calculated, and can be seen on the Account Activity tab in PittPAY. Mandatory fees cannot be waived for any reason. View Mandatory Descriptions.

Other Fees

Some courses have fees attached to them. Examples include physical education, laboratory science, studio arts, and music courses. The academic department asks for the course fees to be added to offset the cost of instruction. For instance, an instructor may need to be hired to teach a specific physical education course such as fencing or karate, or for instruction on a musical instrument. For a laboratory science course, consumables such as chemicals or glassware may need to be replaced. When students self-enroll, they are notified in the Class Notes section on the Class Detail screen when a course fee applies and provided with a link to see the amount. The course fee will appear on the Account Activity tab in PittPAY.  Information about course fees is published by the Office of the University Registrar for Pittsburgh Campus students, and the list is updated weekly.

A Note about ETD Processing Fees

Electronic Theses and Dissertation (EDT) Processing Fees cover the cost of electronic processing and microfilming of a Master's Thesis or Doctoral Dissertation. A fee of $50.00 will be posted to your student account in PittPAY. Once you process an online payment, you will receive a receipt from PittPAY by email to your Pitt and home email addresses, which you can forward to others as needed or save for your own records.
